The South African public has until 31 July to submit nominations for the new board of public broadcaster SABC, which is currently crippled by a financial and managerial crisis.
As per the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Communications, the new 12 non-executive board members should have expertise in the fields of broadcasting policy, technology and broadcasting regulation. This is in addition to a clear understanding of media law, business practice, finance, journalism, entertainment, education and labour issues. The board should also represent a broad cross- section of South Africa’s population.
