Senior producer SuperSport Alvin Naicker was named overall winner at the 29th SAB Journalist of the Year awards held in Johannesburg on Monday, 29 June.
The citation acclaimed him as “world class’ and lauded him for being the leading producer of football and cricket on the continent. In his acceptance speech, Naicker paid tribute to his colleagues and dedicated his award to the late Bo Moseneke.
Other SupertSport staff also got into the act: rugby analyst Bobby Skinstad was named Best Newcomer, cricket host Pommie Mbangwa was named Presenter/Personality of the Year, Gert Roets scooped Programme of the Year honours for his popular Springbok Saga documentary and Crystal Arnold cracked the nod for Insert of the Year for her excellence during the Indian Premier League.
Skinstad, who produces media across a range of platforms, was praised for being “a true multi-media man’.
In addition, Robert Marawa (Presenter/Personality of the Year) and Rudi Nel (TV Programme of the Year) earned special mentions in their categories.
