PANSA, in partnership with the National Arts Festival and Theatre Group Siberia from Holland, is hosting The Novel-Script Project as a collaborative writing development project in July 1009.
Three South African writers will be fully funded to attend the National Arts Festival to participate in a writer’s exchange with three writers from the Netherlands-based theatre company Siberia. This project will put the focus on building the capacity of South African playwrights and to help them to develop international networks.
The six writers will explore how to adapt a novel to a play for the stage. South African writer Zakes Mda’s novel, The Madonna of Excelsior, will be the basis of the workshop. The series of workshops will culminate in a series of staged readings, which will be presented at the Festival.
The three South African writers who are selected for the workshop will receive return airfares, accommodation, standard festival per diem and an opportunity to see a number of productions at the Festival.
Writers who are interested in participating in The Novel-Script Project should provide a 200-word biography and a 300-word motivation on why they would like to participate in this project. Please also supply a two-page scene of dialogue from an existing script of your own, with a note regarding the play and where it has performed in the past. Writers must be available to travel to Grahamstown between 6 and 11 July.
Interested writers are asked to apply by Friday 15 May by e-mailing info@pstproject.co.za
