Variety reports that negotiators for the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG) are quietly holding talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) to try and break the feature-prime time contract stalemate that has been raging since June last year. This is despite the fact that no date for formal negotiations have been announced.
According to Studio Briefing, Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Hanks and George Clooney have been making informal moves to encourage agreement on the contract.
The outstanding issue in the contract negotiations is the contract expiration date. SAG wants a mid-2011 date, while the AMPTP insists on a full three-year terms from the date of ratification.
