Close on 50 production companies were represented at a meeting called by the Independent Producers Organisation (IPO) to discuss the financial crisis at the SABC. Input was also provided by Cape Town production companies at the meeting held at Atlas Studios on Thursday 12 March. It was estimated that attendees represented 80% of independently produced television content.
A vigorous discussion took place on the impact the SABC financial crisis could have on the independent production sector and what steps should be taken to ensure that livelihoods would not be undermined.
It was decided that a multi-faceted campaign of intervention should be launched at various levels. Other decisions adopted were that companies pledge funding to cover legal as well as consultancy c
The IPO will issue an official statement shortly and a full list of all production companies supporting the initiative.
