California introduces tax credit

In an effort to lure film production back to California, the state has introduced a tax credit, a move welcomed by the California Film Commission.

California has been subject to runaway production over the last few years, losing film jobs to other states or location hotspots like Vancouver, Canada and New Mexico. Hollywood suffered a big blow last year when production on the hit sitcom Ugly Betty moved to New York.

According to Variety, California governor and former movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger has been “slow to pursue initiatives perceived as helping his movie-industry buddies”.
