Richard Waghorn, the BBC’s Controller of Distribution up till recently, has joined SABC Technology as its new COO on a two-year contract, starting 1 March 2009.
Waghorn who holds an MBA has over 10 years experience in media. He was responsible for setting strategies for delivering digital switchover and directing the implementation of the BBC’s switchover infrastructure worth £2bn. He is known as a strategic thinker with proven leadership skills with a flair for communication. He also has experience of influencing multiple stakeholder groups at the highest level.
He is an acknowledged industry expert on digital broadcasting, and has overseen the strategic development and delivery of complex digital and technical broadcasting projects.
Nic Bonthuys who was acting COO for SABC Technology has returned to his post as head of SABC Outside Broadcasts.
