The latest stage show from South Africa’s master satirist Pieter-Dirk Uys has been captured on camera by acclaimed producer Anant Singh of Videovision Entertainment (Yesterday, Mr Bones 2) and director Junaid Ahmed (More Than Just A Game). Elections & Erections will be released on DVD by Next Video as from 27 March and will be available from all leading retail outlets countrywide.
The DVD will take audiences on a personal journey with Uys and his alter ego, Evita Bezuidenhoudt, through the minefield of fear and fun on the eve of South Africa’s most crucial general election.
Elections & Erections uses humour, Uys’ weapon of mass distraction, to compares today’s freedom of speech to those years of no freedom in apartheid. Uys also presents a host of familiar and upcoming politicians and opinion-makers, from the Clintons and Obamas in the United States to Archbishop Tutu and Nelson Mandela to old Nats, re-invented Communists and designer Democrats.
Uys had invited Singh to be a guest “star’ on one of his shows in Durban and while watching the show, Singh saw the potential in the DVD market. He presented the idea to Uys who immediately agreed to an elaborate multi-camera shoot with Junaid Ahmed directing the shoot at the Sneddon Theatre at the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban.
