South Africa’s first ever treaty co-production with the UK has won the Audience Award at the recent 24th Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Anthony Fabian’s Skin is supported by the National Film and Video Foundation of South Africa (NFVF), the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC), the UK film financier Aramid and private investors.

Skin is the true-life story of Sandra Laing, a black girl born to white parents in Apartheid era South Africa. It stars Oscar-nominated British actress Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda) in the lead role with Irish-born Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) and South African-born Alice Krige (Chariots of Fire) as the parents. It was shot entirely in South Africa.

The film is currently on the international festival circuit, having been at AFI, Toronto and Rio de Janeiro.
