Informa Telecoms & Media released a special report at MidemNet 2009 in Cannes on 18 January which highlighted interesting facts and figures on how social networking and community features are driving the adoption and usage of mobile music services.

The report is based on forecasts and findings from Informa Telecoms & Media’s recently published Mobile Content and Services 7th edition report. In addition to answering key industry questions, the report provides service initiatives and case studies from around the globe and future roadmaps for players across the mobile content & services value chain. All the research and analysis is backed by detailed global, regional and country level forecasts to 2013. Further details can be found at www.informatm.com/content

“Mobile operators and service providers are increasingly integrating social networking and community features in their value added services,” said Shailendra Pandey, Senior Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media. “For example, if we look at some of the popular mobile music services such as MusicStation, Cyloop Mobile, Shazam, Bebo Mobile, phling!, MyStrands, MOKO.mobi and Vodafone Music Reporter; they all include community features,” he said.

The last two years have seen mobile social networking and community based services and applications receiving growing attention and investment from the mobile industry.

In September 2008, Informa Telecoms & Media conducted the annual Mobile Content & Services Industry Survey. Of the 307 telecom industry professionals who participated in the survey, 71% believed that social networking & community services will have a significant impact on driving the P2P uptake of mobile content.
