With the global film industry’s focus on the Oscar nominations and the recent Golden Globes comes the announcement of this year’s Golden Rasperry Awards (Razzies), which celebrate the worst films of 2008.
Mike Myers is nominated for worst actor for The Love Guru, which is also a worst film contender. Hollywwod legend Al Pacino is a double worst actor nominee for 88 Minutes and Righteous Kill, as is Mark Wahlberg for The Happening and Max Payne. The two other worst actor nominees are Eddie Murphy (Meet Dave) and Larry the Cable Guy (Witless Protection).
Joining The Love Guru in the worst film nominations are two films with the same directing team and cast, Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans; The Happening; the Paris Hilton epic, The Hottie and The Nottie; and In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale.
Hilton, also worst supporting actress nominees for Repo: The Genetic Opera, leads the worst actress nominees, the others being Jessica Alba (The Love Guru and The Eye); The Cast of The Women (Meg Ryan, Annette Benning, Eva Mendes, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Debra Messing); Cameron Diaz (What Happens in Vegas) and Kate Hudson (Fool’s Gold and My Best Friend’s Girl).
Worst supporting actor nominees are Uwe Boll (as himself) in Uwe Boll’s Postal; Pierce Brosnan in Mama Mia!; Ben Kingsley (The Love Guru, War, Inc, The Wackness); Burt Reynolds (Deal, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale); and Verne Troyer (The Love Guru, Uwe Boll’s Postal).
Competing with Hilton in the worst supporting actress category are Kim Kardashian (Disaster Movie); Jenny McCarthy (Witless Protection); Carmen Electra (Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans); and Leelee Sobieski (88 Minutes, In the Name of the King).
Uwe Boll is a three-time worst director nominee with Tunnel Rats, In the Name of the King and Postal. He is joined by the team behind Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans, Jason Friedberg & Aaron Seltzer; Tom Putnam (The Hottie and the Nottie); Marco Schnabel (The Love Guru); and M. Night Shyamalan (The Happening).
Worst screenplay nominees are Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans; The Happening; The Hottie and the Nottie; In the Name of the King; and The Love Guru.
Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel nominees are Indiana Jones & the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; Star Wars: The Clone Wars; Disaster Movie and Meet the Spartans; and Speed Racer.
Hosted by the 29-year old Golden Rasperry Foundation, the Razzies will be presented at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood on 21 February, a day before the Oscars.
