President of the Independent Democrats, Patricia de Lille, will be keynote speaker at the Cape Film Commission (CFC) AGM to take place on 30 September at the Protea President Hotel Bantry Bay, Cape Town.

In her address, De Lille will discuss the impact of new media on the political, cultural and economic front from an international and local perspective, and the effect that the film industry can therefore have on South Africa’s future.

De Lille was one of only 20 South Africans invited to attend the Democratic Convention in the US on 27 August, where presidential hopeful Barack Obama accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination. This event used multimedia to create audience participation. The Convention’s official website, DemConvention.com, received more than 3.2 million visits totaling more than 2.6 billion hits during Convention week. More than 350,000 hours of video were watched by DemConvention.com visitors. Coverage was in high definition (HD) and in both English and Spanish for the first time in Convention history.
