Any South African filmmakers out there despondent about not being able to find finance for their films may take scant comfort from the fact that even filmmakers of the stature of Steven Spielberg (Indiana Jones franchise) and Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings franchise) sometimes get turned down.
The filmmakers approached Universal Pictures with their joint 3D animated project, Tintin, budgeted at #130m and were rejected. It seems that studios were tightening their belts even before the Wall Street plunge last week. Spielberg might now be forced to approach Paramount, the studio he is wanting to leave, with Tintin.
