As South Africa gets closer and closer to its digital broadcasting switch-on deadline of 1 November 2008 without, as at 28 May, a published Digital Migration Strategy or set top box specifications, Nielsen Media Research estimates that by 17 February 2009, the analogue switch off in the US will leave10 million homes unable to receive television programmes on any TV set. Fifteen million more will have at least one set that will not function.
Nielsen’s report, entitled The February 2009 Digital Television Transition, reveals that some US markets are more prepared for the digital switch-on than others. In New York only 3.8% of households are unprepared for the switchover, considerably less than Milwaukee where 18.3% of households are unprepared. (Source: Studio Brifing)
