After five weeks of release, the South African Afrikaans language teen comedy Bakgat! is still in the top 10 and has made R2.5m, proving that there are niche cinema markets out there. This was the figure for the week 9 to 15 May, when Iron Man was still top of the heap, having grossed R6.3m in just two weeks.
The Patrick Dempsey romcom Made of Honor came in second for the above week, with R3.7m after two weeks. Two new releases followed, namely the Kevin spacey gambling drama 21 and 88 Minutes, a thriller starring Al Pacino. The fifth top spot is taken by Jodie Foster’s family adventure Nim’s Island.
The biggest earner currently in the top 10 is the family comedy Game Plan, starring ex-professional wrestler Dwaye “The Rock’ Johnson, which has earned R10.3m in eight weeks. It was in ninth spot for the week in review. (Figures supplied by SAFACT)
