SABC board in firing line

Business Day reports that the Johannesburg High Court has criticised the conduct of SABC board chairwoman Khanyisile Mkonza, when it overturned the board’s suspension of SABC Group CEO Dali Mpofu on 19 May. Mpofu, who was suspended by the board on 7 May just hours after he himself had suspended controversial head of news Snuki Zikalala, has now been reinstated in office.

The ANC ruling party is reportedly gunning for the board and is expected to turn in a vote of no confidence at an upcoming parliamentary meeting on the matter. However, the board is sticking to its conviction that the Mpofu suspension was legitimate.

The SABC and Mkonza have been ordered by the court to pay Mpofu’s legal fees.
