Just in case you thought that only South African businesses were affected by power outages, Netflix, the largest online DVD rental service in the US, was hit by a 10 hour outage on 24 March. Fifty-two Netflix 52 distribution centres went off-line as a result, causing a one- or two-day delay for customers who had ordered DVD rentals.
Coincidentally, this was the same day that the California-based company’s shares rose to by 5% – a record high.
Thus far no reason has been given for the cause of the outage. In June last year the company experienced an 18-hour outage. (Source: Studio Briefing)
