Penn to head Cannes Jury


Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn (“Mystic River’) will head the Jury for the 61st Cannes Film Festival, which takes place in Cannes, France from 14 to 25 May. As a director, the 47-year old Penn is currently receiving lots of critical acclaim for his new film, “Into the Wild’.

Commenting on his upcoming Cannes duty Penn said: “In the last few years there has been a rejuvenation of cinema building worldwide. The Cannes Film Festival has long been the epicentre in the discovery of new waves of filmmakers. I’m really looking forward to serving as the Jury President of this year’s festival.’

Penn himself won a Best Actor award in Cannes in 1997 for Nick Cassavetes’ “She’s so Lovely’.
