Moonlighting Judged Exporter Of The Year

Moonlighting Film Production Services was named winner of the Absa/Cape Town Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry award for Exporter of the Year on 17 October in Cape Town.

This is the first time a “non-visible/non goods’ company has been recognised as an exporter in this way. The other finalists were Ceres Fruit Juices, NoMU, Petrel Engineering, Technical Systems and Trade Winds Parasols.

Said Moonlighting MD Philip Key: “This is a great achievement for us and we are honoured to receive the Cape Regional Chamber’s award. What is really significant for us is that this illustrates that the film industry does belong in the mainstream of commerce and is making a significant contribution to the economy. And it gives participants in the film industry a sense of security – that it is a real business and is going from strength to strength.’

A recent baseline study commissioned by the Cape Film Commission reported that the Western Cape Film Industry as a whole contributed at least R3.5bn to South Africa’s gross domestic product in the 2006 financial year, of which a large percentage is generated through providing production services to international filmmakers from all over the world.

Cape Town-based Moonlighting Film Production Services was founded in 1989 and is now recognised as one of the leading production service companies in the world. The company has to date serviced 924 international commercials, 19 major international and Hollywood studio feature films and works with clients from over 30 countries. Moonlighting has now taken its production service offering beyond African borders and has offices in Santiago, Chile, Bucharest and Romania.
