US Unions In The Wars

Studio Briefing reports that relations between the two major US actors’ unions, SAG (Screen Actors Guild) and AFTRA (American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) are deteriorating. SAG maintains that AFTRA is signing agreements with producers of one-hour cable TVshows that are more advantageous to producers than SAG contracts would be.

SAG National Executive Director Doug Allen believes this undermines SAG’s efforts to improve pay and secure higher residuals for actors on such shows and that rates for members who work on cable and new media should e as high as possible.
