A study by Screen Digest predicts that movie downloads in the US will generate $720m for studios and producers by 2011. Downloads will generate an additional $572m in Western Europe.
Best news of all is that the revenue will go straight to the content owners who won’t have to share their returns with cinemas, nor will they have to pay for prints, shipping and local advertising. The study predicts even greater revenue after 2011, when consumers will be able to watch downloaded films on home entertainment systems. (Source: Studio Briefing)
