An American summer that saw the release of mega sequel blockbusters such as “Spider-Man 3′, “Shrek the Third’, “Pirates of the Caribbean 3: At World’s End’, “Ocean’s 13′ and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’ has made history by recording the highest ever US box office for that season.

According to Gregg Kilday of the The Hollywood Reporter, the 2007 US summer box office is set to top the $4.3bn mark. The previous highest grossing US summer was 2004 at $4bn.

However, admissions for this summer, although higher than the previous two years at 628.5 million, are substantially lower than 2002 with the all time high of 668.1 million.
