Film Australia welcomed the Budget announcement on Wednesday 9 May to increase incentives for investment in film and television production. The Budget also gives direct support to Australian documentary production of cultural and public interest through the National Interest Program and Australian History Initiative.
From 1 July 2008 Film Australia will be merged with the Australian Film Commission and Film Finance Corporation to form the Australian Screen Authority, one of the major outcomes of the Review of Australian Government Film Funding Support.
Film Australia CEO Ms Daryl Karp said, “We look forward to working with the government and other agencies in developing a strategy that ensures the ongoing production of quality of Australian documentaries.’
Film Australia’s current commissioning and production commitments with the independent sector and broadcasters would continue until June 2008.
