On 25 April, SABC Education, SABC iNTERACTIVE and SABC Business Developments held a function at Byzance in Johannesburg to gratefully acknowledge their sponsorship and funding partners.

Said Pontsho Makhetha of SABC Education: “This department is based on curriculum development, support and growth and helps to fulfill the SABC’s educational mandate. Our motto is, “Enriching minds and enriching lives.’

“SABC Education was established in 1996 and is based on “systems thinking’. We are an award-winning department and won 10 awards last year alone, four SAFTAs and six international awards. Together with our stakeholders, we must work together to improve people’s lives.’

Sales Manager of SABC iNTERACTIVE Tebogo More expressed his appreciation to the sponsors and funders present. “Without your support SABC Education would not be what it is today.’

Che Che Mazoka, Head of Funding and Partnerships, SABC Business Developments said that the SABC was “a model citizen’ in the global public broadcasting environment, fostering its mandate of “total citizen empowerment’. “Funding and Partnerships is a very new business unit of the SABC, a mere year old and part of Content Enterprises, set up to raise funds from non-commercial sources such as government departments and corporate social investment departments, so as to fund SABC Education productions. Our transmission of quality educational material inspires and empowers our viewers.’

Standing in for SABC CEO Advocate Dali Mpofu was Yvonne Kgame, Head of the SABC Content Hub, who again acknowledged the contribution of SABC’s partners and sponsors. “We have inherited and enjoyed the freedom of democracy for over a decade. Now we must ask: what is our legacy and our new fight? It’s one that needs the Internet, strong minds and an elevated consciousness. SABC Education is a very important department in the SABC as our mandate is meant to take this continent further and to deliver on the African Renaissance.’

The event was attended by representatives from government and corporates such as Old Mutual, Pfizer and Sanlam, among many others.
