GO, the youth channel on the DStv bouquet of satellite channels, has launched as a 24-hour channel as from 1 April 2007 and will move from channel 84 to channel 10 to accommodate the change.
Lucasta Stephen, Oracle Airtime Sales Kids, Youth & Music Channel Manager believes that the 24-hour schedule will offer advertisers even greater opportunities as a result of increased audience potential and top quality content. “We foresee the audience growing two-ways; firstly by attracting a broader demographic as programming now has a wider appeal and secondly the 24-hour schedule has the ability to attract viewers across the day, significantly in the afternoons when the target market is home and have control of the remote. This is also the time that viewership across other youth channels tends to peak. ”
With a new line up of blockbuster international shows, General Manager, Helen Smit says the channel’s rapid growth into a 24-hour schedule has been fuelled by audience demand. “Young adults in the GO target demographic are sophisticated trendsetters. They know what they want and demand a wide variety to choose from. It’s largely thanks to our loyal viewers that we are now able to expand and offer more exclusive first-view content.’
The new line-up includes old favourites Home and Away and Smallville as well as hot new series’ What about Brian – the story of the only single guy amongst a group of seemingly happy couples and Falcon Beach – a new drama that centers around a group of young adults from vastly different backgrounds that collide in a small lakeside resort town.
For real life drama, follow the story of Jude Harrison, who enters a singer/songwriter competition and wins in Instant Star or catch Rockstar: Supernova, a contest to find a lead singer for the rock band Supernova – made up of Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee, formers Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke.
Other favourites on the channel include; Go Chat, a live reality show where viewers can talk to one another, meet local celebs and get updated on the latest music and Go Zone an urban music and lifestyle show while a late night block of cartoon and anime from hot new animation brand Adult Swim includes Aqua Teen, Hunger Force, Robot Chicken and Stroker and Hoop.
