Mobile media company Player X in co-operation with Universal Mobile Entertainment have expanded their strategic relationship by offering exclusive-for-mobile content from Hot Fuzz, the new hit comedy from the makers of Shaun Of The Dead. Player X is a mobile media company that specialises in games, video and TV.

All the premium mobile content is taken from the movie and includes video clips, as well as wallpapers, voicetones and videotones, as well as exclusive made-for-mobile video content. This video content is being heavily promoted on geekTV, Player X’s made-for-mobile channel, currently live in the UK on 3, and several other territories including India, Scandinavia, Chile and Brazil.

The content goes live on all other UK operators later this month before being rolled out to other territories. The movie about top London cop, PC Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) who finds himself reassigned to the sleepy West Country village of Sandford, was released in the UK on 14 February. It will be launched in other countries over the coming months.

“We are one of the most proactive Hollywood studios when it comes to understanding the mobile channel and our work with Player X on Hot Fuzz underlines this. People who like Hot Fuzz are likely to be the same demographic as those who like mobile video content and that’s why we’re pleased to be offering them it,’ said Amelia Gammon, Director of Sales EMEA, Universal Mobile Entertainment.

Player X and Universal worked together on last year’s hit movie Miami Vice and have recently announced some innovative mobile deals based on Universal’s raft of TV content. Later this year, mobile Retrosodes of cult TV shows Knight Rider and Magnum, P.I. will be released on mobile.

The news comes after Player X’s recent second round of venture capital funding that raised $10 million for rapid expansion and to accelerate its global content strategy across mobile TV, video and games.
