Zwelakhe Sisulu, former CEO of the SABC, and Advocate Gilbert Marcus SC, the two-man commission of inquiry investigating the SABC’s use of independent political analysts has heard evidence from 37 witnesses. According to a statement issued by the commission on Thursday 7 September, of the total 37 witnesses 32 were from the SABC.

“Although the majority of submissions were made voluntarily, we also called on a number of people to present evidence to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the situation,” said Sisulu and Marcus in the statement. Written submissions were also considered.

“We would thank all those who have been part of the process as they have made a valuable contribution to public discourse around the use of independent political analysts, as well as helping to define understanding of the role of the public broadcaster.”

Sisulu and Marcus are now finalising the drafting process. They report that due to their work schedules, they have had to revise their timeframes and now hope to present their final report to the group CEO of the SABC, Advocate Dali Mpofu, before mid-October.

They were not prepared to issue any further comment at this stage of the inquiry.
