CICLOPE Africa announces 2019 award winners

Director Greg Gray (Romance Films) took home a Grand Prix for his work on "Chicken Licken - Sbu 2.0".

The winners for CICLOPE Africa 2019 were announced on Wednesday, 17 April, in an awards ceremony held at The Good Luck Bar, in Johannesburg. In its second edition, the event celebrated the most well-crafted commercials, music videos and short films made by African professionals and for the African market.

A jury chaired by Colin Howard (Egg Films) and Cat Lindsay (The Rudeboy Collective) chose – among 150 entries – the best works in 18 categories, including Direction, Cinematography, Editing, Animation, VFX and Casting, among others. The jury included Peter Khoury (TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris), Suhana Gordhan (FCB), Thabang Moleya (Seriti Films), Darren Gordon (They), Simoné Bosman (Osu), Daniel Mitchell (Left), Clare van Zyl (Monkey Films) and Marc Algranti (Pulse Music).

The panel recognised the very best entry in each category and awarded a Grand Prix to the most extraordinary work in the competition: “Chicken Licken – Sbu 2.0” (directed by Greg Gray, produced by Romance Films and created by Joe Public United). After the final ranking Romance Films won a special award as Production Company of the Year, and Joe Public United, as Agency of the Year. You can find the complete list of winners HERE.

With the aim of putting the region’s work under the spotlight, the winning entries at CICLOPE Africa will automatically become finalists at CICLOPE Festival 2019 – the global show to be held on 7 and 8 November in Berlin.

CICLOPE Africa 2019 was supported by 99c, Panavision, Panalux and Groundglass.
