A basic version of the Facebook app is being developed to cater to users with older or
less advanced Android devices, living in regions with poor internet access. The app,
which hasn’t officially released, is available in a few emerging markets such as
Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
According to the app’s description on Google Play, “This version of Facebook uses less
data and works in all network conditions.’
Facebook Lite is less than 1 MB
and installs and loads quickly. It is very data efficient
and is designed to work for 2G networks.
