Judging for the 2015 South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) began on 1
October. Due to take place on 19 and 21 March the awards celebrate excellence and
encourage entrepreneurship in the local industry.
Over six weeks in October and November judges will reduce the number of entries to a
minimum of five and a maximum of seven per award. Entries in 2014 have amounted to
468 thus far, excluding feature film submissions which close for entry on 30 October
2014.
Once this filtration phase has been completed the final judging phase will commence and
is scheduled to take place between November 2014 and February 2015. Following this
process a new set of judges from the filtration stage, which have no prior knowledge of
all productions in the judging category excluding the panel chairperson and deputy
chairperson which do both filtration and final judging, will select the final nominees and
winners. Nominees will be announced on 4 February.
The judging panel consists of previous SAFTAs winners and key industry specialists with
a minimum of five years’ experience and specialised skill sets.
