Teleprompter supplier Autocue has added two unique features to its newsroom
integration: support for the roElementStat MOS command, which allows the
prompter to automatically jump to whatever story is selected in the newsroom
running order, and Profile 7 support in AP ENPS which allows edits to the script
on the prompter to be mirrored in the newsroom computer system (NRCS).
Support for the roElementStat MOS command is a feature which allows a director
to skip ahead to another story in the running order of the newsroom system,
and for the teleprompter to automatically display the corresponding section of
script, rather than relying on an operator to jump ahead manually. Rachid Anis,
Autocue CTO, explains “This new functionality ensures the prompter is
completely in sync with where the director wants to be in the newsroom system
running order at all times. It eliminates the need for the operator to react to the
director’s instructions and jump to the correct point or for a presenter to have to
scroll ahead themselves to try and find the right point to pick up the story.’
Profile 7 support in AP ENPS allows the communication between the
teleprompter and the newsroom to become two-way. In a standard workflow,
the scripts will be prepared in the newsroom system and output to the
teleprompter, with any changes in the newsroom running order or script
reflected in the prompting system. However, with support for profile 7, Autocue
now enables changes made by the teleprompter operator to be reflected in the
AP ENPS system. Anis continues, “It is much easier for the teleprompter
operator, who is working on the script, to make changes locally on the prompter
machine under the direction of the production team. Until now, this has not been
possible.’
Autocue has also announced support for the very latest MOS protocol versions
2.8.3 and 2.8.4, as well as support for “Buddy Server failover mode’ in AP ENPS.
This means that if the NRCS primary system is unavailable, the prompter will
respond to the backup (buddy) server MOS commands.
