Sixteen African short films participated in the My RØDE Reel competition run by Australian audio company RØDE, from March until June. Winners of the $70,000 USD worth of gear and prizes are to be announced on 18 June, with the Peoples’ Choice publicly voted award announced on 23 June.

Competition entrants were required to submit a short film of no longer than five minutes, as well as a behind-the-scenes video which featured the use of a RØDE microphone during production.

Damien Wilson, RØDE’s Global Marketing and Sales Director, commented, “I am absolutely stunned at the amount of entries we have received. Having watched a great deal of the films personally it is amazing to know that there are so many creative people out there using RØDE. It certainly has been quite a humbling experience to see the shear talent and enthusiasm of the teams and individuals alike that created an entry.’

Prizes include BlackMagic and GoPro cameras, Carl Zeiss lenses, Miller tripods, RedRock Micro rigs, SmallHD and Teradek monitoring equipment, Kessler sliders and jibs, ThinkTank photo bags, Event studio monitors, G-Technology storage, TetherTools accessories, Adobe and RedGiant software, The Music Bed licensing credit, and RØDE microphones.
