Simon Mabhunu Sabela film awards call for nominations

The KwaZulu-Natal Film Commission is calling for nominations for the Simon Mabhunu Sabela film awards, which will be presented at a gala event alongside the Durban International Film Festival on 19 July 2014.

The awards are named in honour of Simon Mabhunu Sabela, a legendary film and television actor and South Africa’s first black director. His successful career included featuring in Zulu (1964), The Gods Must Be Crazy II (1989) and Gold (1974).

Themed Passing the Baton and Keeping The Fire Burning the awards will honour outstanding South African filmmakers, including actors, producers, directors and film technicians, with a special focus on those from the KwaZulu-Natal province.

The categories for the awards are:

Heroes and Legends
Professionals
New Entrants

The closing date for entries is 13 June 2014 at 17h00.
