In a campaign by National Geographic which aims to ensure the ideals of Nelson Mandela live on, viewers are encouraged by a recreated iconic speech, to record their own version in promotion of the South African hero’s legacy.
The commercial features young children of different cultures and races from around the world reciting the speech made by Mandela at the Rivonia trial on 20 April 1964.
Executive Creative Directors Phil Ireland and John Davenport, Art Director Jean-Pierre de Villiers and Copywriter Jenna Smith of advertising agency Ireland Davenport were tasked with conceptualising the advert which was produced by Gentleman Films.
Gentleman films posted on their website: “We are honoured to have been involved in creating this tribute to celebrate the life of the inspiring Nelson Mandela.’
The commercial was directed by Greg Rom, edited by Shaun Broude with sound design by Peter Cornell.
Viewers wishing to take part in the project can visit the Mandela Lives website and record their own version of this speech, to be shared with the world.
