The TED (Technology Entertainment Design) global set of conferences will have a
Soweto leg on Saturday 2 November 2013 at the Soweto Theatre, just outside
Johannesburg, with the theme: Creativity, the answer to all questions.
TED is a nonprofit initiative devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading’. It started out in 1984
as a conference bringing together people from the worlds of technology,
entertainment and design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. TED
conferences bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are
challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes or less).
South African film and TV director Rolie Nikiwe (Intersexions; Nothing for Mahala),
Mabogoshi Sylvia Matlala (a media researcher who worked on Khumbul’ekhaya), and
experimental filmmaker Mocke J van Veuren are some of the speakers confirmed for
TEXxSoweto at the Soweto Theatre in Johannesburg.
The licensee for TEDxSoweto and TEDxJohannebsurg is Kelo Kubu and the curator is
Ithateng Mokgoro.
