Picking up from its last edition in 2012, when it screened several films alongside
vibrant arts activities, the 5th edition of the Protest Arts International Festival (PAIF)
is once again being held in Harare, Zimbabwe from 24 to 26 October.
Films selected for screening during the festival focus on issues of protest and justice.
Screening venues include Alliance Francaise, Harare Gardens, Book Cafe and
University of Zimbabwe.
With many convinced that the status quo in Zimbabwe still poses a lot of questions,
the theme for this year’s festival is Engage, Inspire, and Transcend.
PAIF brings together artists from around the world who are committed to the
promotion of free creative expression, human rights and democracy and who challenge
oppression and advocate for a just society.
The festival vision is of a vibrant arts movement that contributes to public policy
dialogue and formulation, freedom of expression and a just society. Its overall goal is
to facilitate the development of critical arts, spectatorship and citizenry that
participates in building of democratic and just societies.
Other festival highlights include music, theatre, poetry, dance, stand-up comedy and
visual arts. There is also a two-day conference as well as arts workshops.
