Filmmakers around the world are requested to submit entries to the 7th Annual
FilmAid Film Festival 2013 with ‘The Right to Tell Our Stories’ as theme.
The festival intends to ‘celebrate the many untold stories from the refugee community
and others who have been displaced, and to give unique opportunity to great
storytellers from the next wave of great filmmakers to tell stories about those
displaced from their homes – through conflict and other factors – to the rest of the
world’.
Films should focus on issues about refugees and displacement or must be movies that
have been made by refugees or those who have been displaced from their homes. The
festival is especially keen to promote innovation and diverse perspectives.
The 2013 FilmAid Film Festival runs in August 2013 in the Kakuma and Dadaab
Refugee Camps in Kenya. Specific dates will be announced.
Guidelines
- Films must be completed on or after August 2012.
- Films previously submitted to the FilmAid Film Festival are not eligible.
- Films must be submitted on DVD.
- Entrants confirm and warrant required legal authority to submit the entry into the
festival and to use all music, images and content in the entry. - Entrants allow usage of clips from the film for promotional use on television,
radio, in print and at live festival events. - All entries must be either in English or subtitled in English. Non-English entries
submitted without subtitles are not eligible. - Works in progress will be accepted, however, subsequent cuts or replacement
copies will only be accepted at the request of the programming committee. - Only complete entries will be processed.
- Submit a typed or clearly printed entry form along with the submission.
- Students must include proof of their student status at the time of production
(i.e., copy of student ID, transcript, etc.)
Deadlines
The deadline for submission is 2 June 2013. Filmmakers will be notified of their
acceptance status by 15 July 2013.
