Fast-food chain Nando’s has delivered the latest salvo in an entertaining spoof battle with insurance company Santam.
Nando’s started the battle by releasing a spoof of Santam’s latest television ad featuring actor Ben Kingsley earlier in April. Santam replied with a video acknowledging the spoof and publicly challenged Nando’s to deliver a “substantially-sized order’ of menu items to the Johannesburg Children’s Home by 4pm on Thursday 26 April.
Nando’s, together with their agency Black River F.C., then announced another television commercial that went online on 26 April.
In the latest ad, Nando’s confirms the delivery of the order to the Johannesburg Children’s Home, including 62 Lemon & Herb 1/2 chicken and chips with coleslaw meals, 74 Hot Sticky Puddings and that all-important Portuguese Salad.
A press statement explains that, because Nando’s counts family as one of its most important values, the fast food company also committed to delivering food to the Johannesburg Children’s Home on the last Friday of every month for a full year.
Says Quinton Cronje, Nando’s South Africa Marketing Director: “We responded to the challenge – and we responded fast, ahead of the time and day that had been specified. All that’s left to say is well-played all round.’
