The Durban FilmMart (DFM) is encouraging all last-minute applicants to submit their film projects before the extended submission deadline on 29 February.
According to a statement from the Durban Film Office, African filmmakers currently busy at the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and Berlinale Film Festival requested the extension of the deadline. “This final call for submissions should give filmmakers ample time to enter their project submissions,’ said Durban Film Office head Toni Monty.
Producers with projects in development are encouraged to apply for this valued pitching opportunity and co-production event. Ten fiction projects and ten documentary projects will be selected for one-on-one meetings with potential investors and co-producers in the Finance Forum. Documentary projects will also be pitched to a panel of commissioning editors and funders in the DOC Circle .
A co-operative project between Durban Film Office and the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) with principle funding from the City of Durban, Durban FilmMart aims to develop the African film industry by creating opportunities within the sector. Set to take place in Durban from 20 to 23 July 2012, during the 33rd edition of the Durban International Film Festival (19 to 29 July 2012), Durban FilmMart will serve as the meeting place for national and international film producers, buyers, sales agents, film financiers and other film professionals who will participate in industry-related workshops, seminars and networking events. Delegate registration for these programmes will open in April.
Entry is open to projects with an African citizen attached to one of the key three creative roles of producer, director or writer. Proof of African citizenship or birth must be provided through a certified copy of a valid African passport/birth certificate.
