MARTIN CHEMHERE writes…The Gentleman has won an award for Best Director in the Best Narrative Feature category of the American International Film Festival (AIFF) 2011.
The awards ceremony was held on 20 November in Los Angeles.
One of the film’s executive producers, Sylvia Chimhina, based in the US, facilitated the entry.
Says the film’s producer Rufaro Kaseke: “The award further inspires us to reach greater heights in the Zimbabwean film industry. Also, it will help improve the image of our country.’
According to Kaseke the film was the only African feature to win an award at the festival.
The Gentleman’s current international spin comes hot on the heels of its blitz in Harare and Bulawayo cinemas in Zimbabwe. Worldwide screenings continue with one of these being in Blantyre, Malawi in late November. For the Malawi screening the producers secured some partnerships with MultiChoice Malawi and other business individuals for sponsorship.
In November the film also screened at the International Images Film Festival for Women (IIFF) at Mannernberg, Harare in a new category for male filmmakers called The New Man.
