M-Net commercial for Prison Broadcasting Network

A television commercial which will promote the work done by the Prison Broadcasting Network (PBN) is now in full swing thanks to advertising agency Ogilvy Cape Town and Platypus Productions.

Ogilvy’s team of creatives came up with the concept and the commercial is being produced by Tarryn Miller and directed by Renee van Reenen of Platypus Productions.

“What is most exciting about this shoot is that it gives some of our ex-offender students a real opportunity to work in this field,” said Marius Boaden, founder and CEO of PBN.

PBN trains offenders in television production and then broadcasts the programmes they produce through the internal prison television networks in order to make a positive difference to the prison population.

The cameraman, sound recorder and interviewer on the commercial are all ex-offender students of PBN.

“We are so grateful for how Ogilvy, Platypus and M-Net have been so willing to come together to give us this wonderful opportunity,” Boaden said. “All of them have provided their services and expertise on a pro-bono basis. This is what changes lives!”

It is hoped that the commercial will generate interest and funding from the general public.
