Viva Riva! bursts onto SA screens

Fresh from creating a buzz on the international film festival circuit, Viva Riva!, written and directed by the DRC’s Djo Tunda wa Munga, opened at the South African box office over the weekend of 7 to 9 October, making a handy R40,814. It is released with 15 prints by Indigenous Film Distribution.

There was no stopping The Smurfs (including 3D) (111 prints) over the weekend. In just two weeks the film has made a jaw-dropping R17.2m.

Meanwhile, The Bang Bang Club (1 print) continues its slow burn at the box office and had made R1.3m as at 9 October. It has been on circuit for 12 weeks.

The South African film How To Steal 2 Million (10 prints) continues its very impressive run with a cumulative box office of R1.5m, while the Afrikaans-language Saak van Geloof, has made R284,710 to date.
