The IBC Daily reports that Avatar 3D director James Cameron and his partner in the Cameron | PACE Group, Vince Pace, are punting what they call 5D – a system of shooting 2D and 3D simultaneously on the same production via a single system as opposed to two separate systems.
At an IBC session held on 9 September Cameron pointed out that there is no business model that makes any sense for two separate productions. “There is no technical reason why you need to do it.”
Pace added that the company wanted to raise the level of 3D production by delivering a business model which elevates the quality and reduces the cost of production.
Cameron | PACE Group plans to launch in the UK, targeting live sports production.
The IBC session included a 3D preview of the upcoming feature, Cirque Du Soleil.
