Eddie Murphy has been announced as the host of the 84th annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on 26 February 2012.
According to the Hollywood Reporter the producers of the award show, Brett Ratner and Don Mischer, presented their choice to Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences officials, who approved Murphy as host on Tuesday.
Murphy has appeared as presenter at several Oscar shows, but has never hosted the event before. He received an Oscar nomination as best supporting actor for his performance in the 2006 musical Dreamgirls.
