News24 reports that two young men have been sentenced to four years in jail each for attempting to incite riots in England last week using social networking site Facebook.
Jordan Blackshaw (age 20) created a page called “Smash Down Northwich Town’, while Perry Sutcliffe-Keenan (age 22) created the “Let’s Have a Riot in Latchford’ page.
A police representative has said that the sentences recognise how technology can be abused to incite criminal activity and sends a strong message to potential troublemakers.
Five people were killed and at least 16 injured between 6 and 10 August when rioters took to the streets of London and other cities including Birmingham, Bristol and Nottingham in a wave of looting, arson and civil unrest.
