A small South African animated pooch, Jock of the Bushveld, blitzed the local box office in his opening week. The 3D film of the same name (84 prints) went straight to the top of the Combined Top 10 for the weekend of 29 to 31 July, making a huge R2.4m. This is South Africa’s first feature length animated movie.
Another three South Africa movies are on circuit – My Hunter’s Heart (2 prints), The Bang Bang Club (51 prints) and Roepman (9 prints).
As at 31 July, My Hunter’s Heart had a cumulative box office of R33,280. It made the number 8 spot on UIP’s Top 8 for that weekend.
The Bang Bang Club is doing steady business on the circuit – its cumulative box office after two weeks of release is R755,677.
The Afrikaans Roepman has been on circuit for 10 weeks and has made an impressive R2.3m to date.
