Photographers from South Africa and Kenya won prestigious awards at the 4th Photoafrica contest which took place at the 8th African Film Festival of Tarifa.
South African Jessica MacLeod won first prize of €1,500 for a photograph titled ‘You see a shack, I see my house’. Second place of €1,000 went to James Muriuki from Kenya for the photograph titled ‘44’, and third place went to Mimi Cherono, also from Kenya, for the photograph ‘Khusi and the Giraffes’.
The final of the contest saw 25 photographers from 11 African countries competing. The exhibition of altogether 27 large format photographs was installed outdoors in Tarifa and will travel through Spanish and African cities for the rest of the year after the end of the festival. The topic of this year’s Photoafrica was ‘Urban Space’.
