The crime thriller directed and written by Congolese filmmaker, Djo Tunda Wa Munga, Viva Riva! won the inaugural prize for Best African Movie at MTV’s 2011 Movie Awards presented at the Gibson Amphitheatre in California on 5 June.
Viva Riva! Is the breathless story of the rise and fall of Riva, a Congolese smuggler who makes a fortune overnight and is hunted down in Kinshasa. The film stars Patsha Bay Mukana as Riva and Manie Malone as Nora, the girlfriend of a tough local crime boss. Viva Riva! was produced by Bors van Gils, Michael Goldberg, Djo Tunda Wa Munga and co-produced by Steven Markovitz.
