The YouTube Cannes Young Lions 48 Hour Ad Contest returns this week for a third year, giving people aged between 18 and 28 the chance to win a trip to Cannes Lions and compete in the Young Lions Film Competition.
The competition challenges young people to create a 60-second ad for a charity in a weekend’s time. The brief for the ad will be posted on YouTube at midnight (GMT) on Friday 13 May. Contestants will then need to plan, shoot and edit their clip over the next 48 hours, uploading it to the channel before midnight on Sunday 15 May.
Once the videos are online, contestants have a week (16 to 22 May) to tweet it, blog it and Facebook it in an effort to take the clip viral. A group of high-profile experts will judge the entries and take into account the public votes before choosing two winners.
The judging panel includes Gerry Human, executive creative director of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide; Keith Ho, executive creative director of Grey Hong Kong; Agnello Dias, chairman and co-founder of Taproot India; Jens Mortier, partner and creative director of mortierbrigade; Meera Sharath, executive creative director UK of Momentum Worldwide; and Tom Hauser, associate interactive creative director of Crispin Porter + Bogusky.
The two winners will each receive return flights to Cannes, six nights’ accommodation in the city, a delegate registration for Cannes Lions, and spending money. They will also compete together as Team YouTube in the Young Film Lions competition.
The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity will take place from 19 to 25 June 2011.
