Cell C campaign controversy


TechCentral reports that Vodacom’s advertising agency Draftfcb has taken issue with its former executive creative director, Grant Jacobsen, regarding Cell C’s new ad campaign which takes a dig at Vodacom’s brand makeover. Draftfcb believes Jacobsen’s behavior is unethical and may sue for damages.

Both mobile network operators are due at the Advertising Standards Authority to discuss the matter.

Jacobsen left Draftfcb at the end of December to join DDB SA as executive creative director.

Draftfcb CEO John Dixon maintains that Jacobsen used confidential Vodacom information in Cell C’s campaign. Jacobsen, who had been involved with Vodacom’s rebranding campaign, denies this.
